ROSS University Medical School Session:

Tuesday November 30 in MC 2017 from 5:30-7:30

Hey guys, UW Pre-Med Club is hosting a joint event along with the UW Pre-Vet Club for this term. A representative named Tom Harkness will be coming down to our campus to give us information Ross University's Medical School. Here is a link to their website http://www.rossu.edu/. The event will be held on NOVEMBER 30, 2011 in MC 2017 from 5:30-7:30 PM. An event page will be made for this shortly and e-mail reminders will be sent out to remind you about the event. Tuesday September 27 in Phys 145 from 5-7:30

Our first meeting will include Introduction & information of the club, benefits of PAID membership, lists of events for term. Followed by an OMSASS information session covering deadline, navigating the system, application process, MCAT etc..).

MCAT Information Event

Come out to UW Pre Med Club’s first event of the Winter Term! We will be holding an info session that focuses on all things MCAT! The session will provide information on various aspects of the MCAT including specific subjects covered on the test, sample questions, how to study, prep courses, OMSAS requirements, scores, etc. If you are thinking about writing the MCAT then this is definitely an info session you don’t want to miss!

Seminar on CV-building with Notes on Courses

The topics covered will be geared towards the topic of CV-building. These include volunteering and extra-curricular activities. This session is going to be helpful for all student. A few notes on course selection will be made.

Career Services: Multiple-Mini Interview (MMI) Practise Session
Wednesday, February 24 4:30-7:00 T C 1214
This session will be conducted as a mock MMI. You will practise your skills by moving through a series of stations and answering interview questions. And, you will receive both personal and general feedback at a debriefing session. NOTE: Registration is limited. To be eligible for this session you must attend the “Understanding the Multiple-Mini Interview” workshop and provide a copy of your invitation to a 2010 MMI. Please come to the Career Services front counter, TC 1214, to register for this session."

 

Career Services: Medical School Interviews (Standard Interviews)
Saturday, February 27 12:30-3:00 T C 2218
This workshop will provide information on how the interview process works as well as strategies for improving your performance in the interview. The overview will be followed by a mock interview workshop that will give you the opportunity to answer questions and receive feedback on your performance. 

 

Career Services: Understanding the Multiple-Mini Interview(MMI)Monday, February 22 6:00-7:00 T C 1208
The multiple-mini interview (MMI) is used by some programs (e.g., medical school) as part of their admission process. During the interview, applicants move through a series of “stations.” This workshop will focus on how to prepare for the MMI and provide tips on how to work through the stations and resources.

Medical School Fair

Our first event this term is a "Med School Fair" in which we are having med-school reps coming to speak from McMaster, and Western (who will be speaking about their MD/Phd program).  The execs will be experts in the procedures and admissions details for the other Ontario schools: Northern Ontario School of Medicine, Ottawa, Toronto, and Queens.

If you are interested in any of the other out of province schools, please talk to the execs at this event also,  as many of us have individually applied places and can direct you towards information sources for the admissions details you seek.

The event will be at 6:00 pm in MC 2065 on Wednesday, Jan 27th! See you all there!!

Welcome to the winter term

Hope you all had a wonderful winter break.  Clubs Day is going to be held on January 14th and 15th, from 10am to 3pm in the Great Hall, SLC. Come by the booth to renew your memberships ($2/term) if you have not already. Executives will be available to answer your question or even to chit chat and new members are always welcome!

Physician Guest Speaker

Our BEST event of the term will be held on Wednesday November 25th, at 5:30 pm in MC 4040, where we have Dr. Janet Speight coming into talk about her experience as a physician in the KW region. Dr. Speight is also a Clinical Professor (Adjunct) with the Pediatrics Department at McMasters DeGroote School of Medicine.

This is sure to be a very informative event and a great chance to have your questions answered by an experienced physician. Hope to see everyone there!

Update for members

We were glad to see the people who made it to our last event in the midst of midterm season. We hope all your non-marks related questions were answered, if not, feel free to contact us. Anyone looking for an overview of what was talked about check the Extracurricular document.

MCAT/Activities/Courses Event

Ever wonder, What courses do you need for Med School? What is the MCAT all about? What activities should you be involved in?  Well come out to our second event  on Tuesday October 27th, at 5:30 pm in ENV (environmental sciences) room 2002 as we will be going over three major categories of things all pre-med students should be aware of, other than your grades!

Med-School: Perspectives of a Waterloo Grad

Our next event will help you learn more about the medical school application process in Ontario. The presenter, Kevin Mayer,will also discuss life as a medical student, the stages of medical training, and help you assess whether a career in medicine is right for you.

This event takes place Tuesday, October 13th 6:00-8:00 TC 2218.

Our first event of the term will be held the week after Clubs Day, on Wednesday, September 30th, from 5:45 - 7:00 PM in MC 2066

As always! Pizza will be served for paying members.  This event is a social so come out, meet the execs for the 09/10 year and all your fellow premed students! We'll be letting you know all the great events we have planned coming up over the next two terms!
